FUTMINNA APPOINTS DR SAKA NEW LIBERIAN
The Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Minna has, at its 144th (Special) meeting held on Thursday, March 18, 2021, approved the appointment of Dr. Katamba Abubakar Saka of the Department of Library and Information Technology as the substantive University Librarian.
The appointment letter signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo, which was made available to the University’s Information and Publications Unit, stated that the appointment took effect from Thursday, March 18, 2021.
Dr.Saka clinched the post ahead of three other contenders who attended the rigorous interview.
Born on February 12, 1969, Saka who hails from Baro in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State
had his early education at LEA. Primary School, Bida from 1974 to 1979. He attended Government Science Teachers College, Bida from 1979 to 1984.
After obtaining the Nigeria Certificate in Education from the Niger State College of Education, Minna (1987 – 1990), he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1992 and graduated with a Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree in 1997.
He was also at Bayero University, Kano (2002 – 2005) where he added a Masters Degree in Library Science
The university don bagged a Doctorate degree in Library and Information Studies, majoring in Library Management from the University of Maiduguri in 2014.
The new University Librarian joined the Federal University of Technology, Minna as an Assistant Lecturer in August, 2005 and steadily progressed through the ranks to become Associate Professor in 2019.
Dr. Saka, who held several positions of authority in the University was Head of Department, Library and Information Technology, from 2015 to 2020.
A member of the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria, Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria and Nigerian Association of Library and Information Science Educators. He has to his credit dozens of published international and national journal articles, in addition to a textbook and several book chapters.
He succeeds Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Bitagi who had acted in that capacity since August 2, 2020.
Dr. Saka is married and blessed with children.
